The Immune System, Part 2

The Immune System, Part 2

This is Part 2 of our two-part series on the immune system. In Part 2, we delve deeper into how we achieve immunity through maternal antibodies, vaccinations and general exposure to pathogens (the hygiene hypothesis). Antibodies are also an integral part of biological techniques such as ELISA, affinity chromatography and Western gels. We will discuss and review all of this material.

Essential skills

  • In experimental biology, antibodies have many different applications. Be able to connect your content knowledge with your experimental skills!

Knowledge Fundamentals

  • Clonal selection

  • Complement system

  • Blood types

  • Active vs passive immunity

  • Biological techniques that involve antibodies

On the MCAT

  • The test is straightforward in how it handles the immune system. There are no trick questions and you can mostly rely on recall for system-specific questions.

  • But, aspects of the immune system, like antibodies, are often used in biochemical techniques. Also, vaccination and immunity have become hot topics.

I think these webinars are really helpful! I like how they’re styled like a TED talk, so they don’t interfere with the day, but they’re really helpful review 🙂

I found everything helpful about these webinars: the explanations, the illustrations, just everything!

Amazing material conveyed concisely and in great detail!

The wealth of information and sample questions are great.

“These 30 minute FREE, live videos conducted each Friday helped me get through the pandemic. Weike is an exceptional tutor, and being able to ask questions after she’s done was magnificent. These webinars have even helped me in class subjects such as Biochemistry.  I’m looking forward to starting one-on-one tutoring with Cambridge Coaching, and I’m already feeling confident about taking the MCAT when the time comes.”
