Psychological Disorders

Psychological Disorders

According to the DSM-5, there are many classes and types of psychological disorders, which can often be confusing for the MCAT student! Fear not, this webinar will help you sort through the most commonly tested psychological disorders. We recommend pairing this webinar with our personality disorder webinar, as personality disorders are often confused for other major psychological disorders.

At a glance

Essential skills

  • Differentiate similar psychological disorders (especially personality disorders) from one another

  • In this webinar, we provide tables, flow charts, and Venn diagrams to make the memorization earlier, but we encourage you to find the memorization tool that works best for you!

Knowledge Fundamentals

  • Know your personality, anxiety, dissociative, somatoform, mood, psychotic, and neurocognitive disorders

  • Schizophrenia and named disorders like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's

  • Affected neurotransmitters and drugs that can help different disorders

On the MCAT

  • The MCAT will never present a psychological case that is ambiguous or difficult to determine (that's the boards). So focus on the details the question stem provides and pick the most likely answer. Don't play Devil's advocate.

  • Psychological disorders can appear in the biological science section as well!

I think these webinars are really helpful! I like how they’re styled like a TED talk, so they don’t interfere with the day, but they’re really helpful review 🙂

I found everything helpful about these webinars: the explanations, the illustrations, just everything!

Amazing material conveyed concisely and in great detail!

The wealth of information and sample questions are great.

“These 30 minute FREE, live videos conducted each Friday helped me get through the pandemic. Weike is an exceptional tutor, and being able to ask questions after she’s done was magnificent. These webinars have even helped me in class subjects such as Biochemistry.  I’m looking forward to starting one-on-one tutoring with Cambridge Coaching, and I’m already feeling confident about taking the MCAT when the time comes.”
